Workshop Sometimes it rains by Mathild Clerc-Verhoeven. Artist, weaver and, at the moment, sewer in Paris. Sometimes (often in Belgium) it rains. (Almost) every day, most of us shower, flush the toilets, drink water from the tap, do dishes. One could argue that each of this situation is identical. Water pours, and, following gravity, goes through the ground or through a pipe, or it forms a pond.
Through a walk around the farm and the neighborhood, we will try to localize several hints: pieces of infrastructure, objects, etc. that can inform us about various forms of water cycles and the underground system that facilitates it. A drawing session will follow the walk during which we will try to build speculative maps about water cycle(s) and management under this piece of land.
Mathild Clerc-Verhoeven is currently living between Amsterdam and Brussels. Graduated from the BA ‘Text and Textile’ at the Gerrit Rietveld Academie, and from the temporary MA program ‘F for Fact’ at the Sandberg institute in Amsterdam.
The question of our tenuous ties to materials, tools, and “making” is central to her work. She often work from the gestures and know-how that connect craftsmanship and maintenance, and in collaboration with people who make and maintain our material environment. Currently, she is collaborating with the sewer workers of Paris toward an installation in the Sewer Museum of Paris.

Magda Guelinckx was raised on the farm in Attenrode and lived with her parents, her sisters, brother, aunts and uncle. At the age of 21, she married Gaston Denruyter, left the farm and moved to a house 300 metres down the street.
She taught ‘homemaking and technology’ at the teacher training college at Heilig Hart Heverlee. Magda still speaks with great affection about the farm, the work, the fields, the animals and what was grown and eaten. On Sundays, she takes great pleasure in cooking for her children and grandchildren. On Sunday 12 July, we’re expanding the family, and Magda will be cooking at the farm for everyone who joins the table.
